The Brown Brothers - The Secret Disco Sessions /CD 2010
Lost tracks from the Real Thing studios of the late 70s – a tiny Brooklyn basement enclave put together by brothers Patrick, Charles, and Marcus Brown – home to a host of famous parties and live mixing sessions back in the day! According to the notes, most of these tracks only ever circulated as limited acetates on the New York scene – cuts put together by the Brown Brothers with a very spontaneous nature – almost live recordings of a funky party going on around them than the usual disco groove. Instrumentation is often quite raw – lots of heavy percussion, jamming horns and guitar, and none of the sweeter modes you'd find in more conventional club of the time – a groove that's almost in the territory of P&P Records material, but without any of the spacier, quirkier touches. Most numbers have a spare, core rhythmic approach we really love – lots of hypnotic drums that drive the groove strongly, almost with an early house music feel, but warmer overall. Titles include "Here I Am At The Disco", "A Side Disco", "It's Payday", "Don't Freak Out", "Do It Do It", "Check Out The Sounds", "Shame On You", "Feel It Feel It", and "It's You That I Adore".
